The Remembrance of Looking Forward
As we begin our holiday season with giving thanks, we are going to take a moment today to focus on the greatest gift given of all time. The Lord's Supper is the celebration of remembrance of what Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross.
I don't know about you, but I enjoy taking the time to remember. Paul writes for us in 1 Corinthians 11:26, "For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes." (ESV)
This morning, we are going to examine the directions of the supper. Not so much how to take it but to create a focus for us to examine, to project and to protect.
Ask the person of the Holy Spirit to walk with us this morning and for this celebration as a church family to be more than just a ritual. That word ritual means a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order. As I think about solemn, it should be a sobering thought, yet, but it also should be a celebrating thought as we think about our victory.
