Sometimes God meets us in the middle of seasons we never expected. For Haylie, years of health struggles brought questions, uncertainty, and a desire to find her way back to a deeper relationship with Jesus.
Haylie grew up in church and always knew about Jesus, but after a serious car accident in 2011, her life changed in ways she never could have expected. Years of health struggles followed, and she found herself asking questions she had never had to wrestle with before.
"I knew Jesus, but I didn't have a solid faith back then," she shared.
Through years of surgeries, health problems, and even a battle with breast cancer, her faith became a daily journey. There were moments when she struggled to understand why God would allow so much hardship.
"It wasn't easy. I've definitely struggled, and I still struggle," she said. "It's a daily thing."
Through her struggles, God met her in a simple and unexpected way.
In the midst of her cancer battle, she noticed a sign for Drive Through Prayer. She didn't know it was the first day of the ministry, but something caught her attention.
She wasn’t looking for prayer but thoughts “'Jesus, take the wheel.' I'm coming off the rails, and I need a prayer. And they're offering it, so I need it." took over and she pulled in.
That simple decision became the beginning of something much bigger.
Through Drive Through Prayer, she met people who prayed with her, encouraged her, and showed her the love of Christ. She kept coming back, and eventually, she and her husband visited Victory Life.
What she found wasn't just a church service. She found a family.
"I got reconnected through Drive Through Prayer and Victory Life," she said. "Growing up in Church , I never had somebody, besides my family and my friends, make me feel like a sister in Christ. At Victory Life, I finally felt that."
"I feel accepted and loved and redeemed, and just chosen."
Her story is a reminder of what can happen when we simply say yes to the next step God puts in front of us. Sometimes that step is walking through the doors of a church. Sometimes it's joining a Bible study. And sometimes, it's simply pulling into a parking lot because you need someone to pray for you.
For Haylie, that first step eventually led to a deeper walk with Jesus and a decision to be baptized again.
"This time, it felt like a personal decision. It felt like my decision. I was ready."
Her circumstances haven't suddenly become easy, and she doesn't pretend that following Jesus means we won't struggle.
"But when you look at my eyesight coming back and not having cancer anymore, that's a God thing," she said. "There's no other way to describe it."
Now, she sees opportunities to share the same love and hope she experienced through others.
Her encouragement to someone who feels far from God is simple: take the first step.
"It's hard taking that first step. The first step is the scariest.”
Sometimes, that first step is all it takes to discover that God has been there all along.
Drive Through Prayer is more than a place to receive prayer. It's an opportunity to remind people that they are seen, loved, and never walking through life alone.
