Les + BethAnn Wilks
For many people, faith can feel like something you either get right early in life—or miss entirely. But Les and BethAnn’s story is a reminder that God is patient, persistent, and always at work.
“I thought I got saved when I was ten or eleven,” Les said. “But looking back, I don’t think I did.” For years, faith was more routine than relationship. “I was one of those guys that would go to church when I felt like it. We’d go on Easter, we’d go on Christmas… but I wasn’t a spiritual leader.”
BethAnn’s story looked different. She grew up around church but walked through seasons that pulled her away. It wasn’t until later, after becoming a mom, that something shifted deeply in her heart. “All of a sudden, it wasn’t just me anymore,” BethAnn said. “I needed to get this baby in church.”
She began going faithfully, even when she had to go alone. Week after week, she showed up—building a foundation of faith for her family before she fully understood how much it would shape her own life. In 1988, BethAnn gave her life to Christ and began walking closely with Him.
At the same time, something else was happening behind the scenes—something quieter, but just as powerful. Prayer. “I think his mom started praying for me the day she met me,” BethAnn said. Les shared the same about his own mom: “She never pushed it, but she prayed.”
Long before either of them fully surrendered their lives to Christ, someone was faithfully interceding on their behalf. And God was working through those prayers in ways they couldn’t yet see.
Years later, everything changed for Les.
A coworker invited him to a Bible study. At first, he ignored it. “I said I’d think about it,” he laughed, “but I threw it in the trash.”
But God didn’t let it go.
A few weeks later, out of nowhere, he felt prompted to go back and get the study. He walked into a bookstore, picked it up, and began reading. Within weeks, his life was transformed. “I got on my knees in that room and asked the Lord into my life,” Les said. “And ever since then, my life has been changed.”
It’s a powerful reminder that it is never too late.
No matter how long you’ve gone through the motions…
No matter how far you feel from God…
No matter how many years have passed…
He is still pursuing you.
Today, their lives reflect that transformation in different but equally meaningful ways.
For Les, it looks like boldness. “When I see somebody, I don’t see anything but a soul,” he said. “I just want to know if they know Jesus.” Whether he’s at work, on the phone, or running errands, he looks for opportunities to pray with people and share the gospel. “If you ask God for opportunities, He will give them to you.”
For BethAnn, it looks like quiet faithfulness. “I’m not going to walk into a 7-Eleven and do that,” But she serves in ways that are just as impactful—caring for others, cooking meals, praying, and loving people consistently. Her faith shows up in the way she takes care of her family and the people around her.
Different expressions, same obedience.
Together, their story encourages us that sharing the gospel doesn’t look the same for everyone—but it always starts with a willing heart. And through every season, one thing has remained constant: prayer.
Prayers from a mother.
Prayers over a family.
Prayers that didn’t seem answered right away—but never went unheard.
Even now, as Les and BethAnn walk through a new season of life, much of their focus is on continuing to pray—especially for their children and grandchildren. “We just keep praying,” they shared.
And maybe that’s the encouragement we all need.
Keep praying for the people in your life.
Keep trusting God is working—even when you don’t see it yet.
Keep saying yes when He gives you the opportunity.
Because their story proves that He is faithful.
It’s never too late to come to Christ.
And it’s never too late for a life to be changed.
